Contributing to Inclusive Development

Canada is a long-standing partner for IFC in advancing sustainable private sector growth in developing countries. Canada's support has enabled IFC to expand its advisory services, blended finance, and investment operations to promote inclusive economic development and job creation, while mobilizing private capital and enhancing the business environment in client countries.

Canada's leadership in climate action supports IFC initiatives in renewable energy and climate resilience, including programs that integrate clean energy growth with greater participation of women in leadership and technical roles. Canada’s partnership with IFC is catalyzing private sector engagement in advancing inclusive businesses, supporting small holder farmers, and building climate-resilient communities. 

Featured Programs

  •  Women’s Employment and Entrepreneurship in Tanzania: This project aims to improve women’s participation in the private sector. By supporting women as employees and entrepreneurs, the program helps companies to implement workplace policies and practices that help them to better attract, recruit, retain, and promote women and integrate women-owned/led businesses as suppliers in corporate supply chains.
  • Jordan Infrastructure through PPPs: This project seeks to contribute to sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Jordan by providing support to build Jordan’s public-private partnerships (PPP) capacity.  Activities include, helping the government to operationalize the new Central PPP Unit, and develop a strong pipeline of bankable PPP projects, as well as pre-feasibility work, and transaction advisory.
  • Enhancing Extractives Sector Benefit Sharing: This project aims to improve the social and economic benefits for communities hosting natural resources development projects in Ghana, Guinea, Kenya and Côte d’Ivoire. With a focus on the poorest and most vulnerable communities, this project contributes to job creation, revenue generation for local businesses, and long-term economic development. 
  • FIAS: The Facility for Investment Climate Advisory Services (FIAS) is a global multi-donor program aimed at improving the business environment, expanding market opportunities, and increasing firm-level competitiveness in developing countries.
