Patrick Avato Appointed IFC Country Manager for Argentina

August 10, 2026

BUENOS AIRES, August 10, 2026 – Patrick Avato has assumed the role of Country Manager for Argentina at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. In this position, he will lead IFC’s strategy and operations in the country, with a focus on expanding private sector investment, supporting sustainable growth, and helping create jobs in the country.

Argentina presents significant opportunities for private investment across infrastructure, energy, mining, agribusiness, manufacturing, and financial services. Avato will work closely with companies, investors, financial institutions, and public sector partners to help unlock investment in areas that are critical for the country’s long-term development.

"With its world-class resources, entrepreneurial talent, and strong private sector, the country has many of the ingredients needed to unlock sustainable and inclusive growth. IFC is committed to working with clients, investors, and partners to help turn that potential into concrete investment and development impact,” said Avato.

Before taking on this role, Avato served for six years as IFC Manager for Infrastructure, Energy, and Mining in Europe and the Caucasus, where he oversaw project development and advisory services in  energy, transport, utilities, mining, and digital infrastructure.

With more than 20 years of experience across infrastructure, energy, mining, and private sector development, Avato has held leadership positions across the World Bank Group, helping develop investment programs, mobilize private capital, and strengthen private sector participation in emerging markets.

"We also see important opportunities to deepen capital markets, expand access to finance for small and medium-sized enterprises, and support productivity and long-term job creation in Argentina," said Avato.

An Italian and German national, Avato holds graduate degrees from the University of Tuebingen in Germany and Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
