IFC’s Inclusive Agritech Facility Investments in India

Agriculture remains central to livelihoods and food security in South Asia, yet smallholder farmers continue to face persistent challenges—from limited access to finance and technology to climate-related risks and market inefficiencies. IFC’s Inclusive Agritech Facility (IAF), launched in 2018 with support from Gates Foundation, addresses these constraints by using blended finance to de‑risk early‑stage equity investments in high‑impact agritech companies across India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

In India, IAF has helped catalyze private investment into innovative business models that span the agricultural value chain, including digital dairy platforms, solar-powered irrigation and cold storage, waste‑to‑value solutions, and inclusive agrifintech. By partnering with Omnivore, India’s leading agritech-focused venture capital fund, the facility has supported companies that improve productivity, reduce post‑harvest losses, strengthen resilience, and create new income opportunities—particularly for women and smallholder farmers.

This publication highlights how blended finance can unlock private capital for riskier but transformative agritech solutions, demonstrating scalable approaches that connect farmers to markets, technology, and financial services. Together, these investments show how innovation—when paired with patient capital—can deliver meaningful development impact while building more resilient and inclusive food systems.
