The Jhelum-Poonch Basin is an important strategic basin for Pakistan. It holds enormous potential for hydropower generation. However, the rivers of this basin are also important for supporting aquatic biodiversity and a range of ecosystem services for the local communities. The strategy for sustainable hydropower development described in this document aims to balance conservation and development as well as minimize the negative environmental and social impacts of hydropower projects in the basin.
