This briefing note captures the lessons learned from a recent IFC pilot program in Kenya that explored ways to harness private innovation, technical skills, and financing to equitably increase access to safe water and sanitation for underserved consumers. It discusses a range of innovative market-based approaches tested through the program, including in the areas of household sanitation, financing models for piped water delivery, and vended (or distributed) water services.
