Nepal Financial Inclusion Report 2023

April 25, 2023

Adequate access to financial services is essential in improving the quality of life for households and individuals, particularly those with low incomes, and in strengthening the productive capacity of micro, small and medium enterprises. To this end, IFC and Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) executed the Nepal Household Survey on Access to Finance (IFC A2F 2021/22 survey) as part of the Access to Financial Services Nepal Project.

This report leverages the results of the survey and presents an updated version of the 2021 Nepal Financial Inclusion Making Access Possible (MAP) Refresh study, which considers new data on inclusive growth-related development since the refresh study. The 2021 MAP refresh study was conducted by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) to analyze the implementation of the 2016 MAP diagnostic study recommendations and the 2017-2022 Nepal Financial Inclusion Road Map and Action Plan.

To meet the objectives of the National Financial Inclusion Roadmap for Nepal, the World Bank Group (WBG) and UNCDF MAP have united to revise the Financial Inclusion Roadmap and amend the Nepal Financial Inclusion Action Plan. This collaboration between the Bretton Woods Institutions, the United Nations, development partners and national institutions will maximize the impact of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the implementation of the national financial roadmap and ensure consistency in policy advocacy, programming, and evaluation of results in the financial inclusion domain.
