Training on IFC Performance Standards with EDL-Generation Public Company (EDL-GEN)

Twenty-five environmental and social professionals from Lao People’s Democratic Republic’s largest hydroelectricity generator in Lao PDR, joined an intensive, interactive 5-day training to learn how to better manage environmental and social risks. Tailored to the hydropower sector in Lao PDR and the company’s future plan, the training aims to build a foundation for individual and organizational competence in sustainability and environmental and social risk management. At the end of training, participants will have gained:
  • An increased awareness of the sustainability framework and Performance Standards and their role in its application;
  • An appreciation of the value of incorporating such principles into their organization;
  • The ability to deploy frameworks and tools to assist them in dealing with environmental and social risks of hydropower projects and how to manage these risks;
  • The step-by-step process that needs to be undertaken to apply IFC Performance Standards, how to manage their application and adherence throughout the life of a project, and make adjustments if required; and
  • How to apply the Performance Standards to existing facilities and to think through a plan for application to future facilities to be handed over to EDL Gen or generated by themselves.
