PRAIA, July 25, 2024 — Effective today, Ms. Indira Campos assumes the role of World Bank Group (WBG) Resident Representative for Cabo Verde, based in Praia. This unified position consolidates leadership across the institution's entities – namely the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) – enhancing support for Cabo Verde's public and private sector priorities. Ms. Campos will serve as the primary point of contact, facilitating access to the full range of WBG products and services, thereby bolstering the institution's capacity to assist the country in addressing its challenges and fostering development with efficiency and impact.
"As I embark on this new role in Cabo Verde, I am committed to deepening partnerships and fostering integrated solutions across sectors to advance the country's development agenda," stated Indira Campos. "I look forward to leading the World Bank Group's efforts in ensuring impactful outcomes that benefit the Cabo Verdian populations."
A seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience in research, strategy consulting, and development finance across Africa, Ms. Campos began her career at the international affairs think tank, Chatham House in London. She subsequently worked for the European Union in Brussels, the African Development Bank in Tunis, and the Boston Consulting Group before joining IFC.
The WBG's work in Cabo Verde is structured around three key priorities: (i) strengthening partnerships with national authorities, the private sector, local institutions, civil society, and international development partners; (ii) developing integrated solutions across public and private sectors to effectively implement the WBG engagement framework in the country; and (iii) providing strategic leadership to the WBG overall country team. The current portfolio includes eight national operations with a total commitment of $255.50 million and two regional projects totaling $40 million.
Additionally, the IFC's investment portfolio in Cabo Verde has grown significantly, increasing from US$2 million to US$68 million (including mobilization) from Fiscal Year 2023 to Fiscal Year 2024.
Cabo Verde is among the first group of 21 WBG offices moving to a unified country representation model for IBRD, IDA, IFC, and MIGA operations. This transition marks a significant step toward strengthening the institution's impact in the country.
