World Bank Group Appoints a New Resident Representative for The Gambia

BANJUL, July 1,2024Effective today, Mr.Franklin Mutahakanais the new World Bank Group(WBG) Resident Representative for The Gambia.This new position unifies country-level leadership across the institutioni.e., the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)- to better support The Gambia’s public and privatesectorpriorities. It provides a single point of contact for access to the full breadth of WBG’sproducts and services and willenhance the institutions’ ability to help the country addressits challenges and drive developmentwith speed, efficiency and impact.

A Ugandan national, Mr. Mutahakana joined the World Bank in 2014 and worked as the Senior OperationsOfficer in the Uganda Country Office.  Prior to joining the World Bank, he worked with the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI) both based in Harare, Zimbabwe as well as the Bank of Uganda. 

The World Bank Group’s current portfolio in The Gambia consists of 8National operationstotaling to $509.50 millionin commitments and 7 Regional operations – totaling to $275 million. 

Mr. Mutahakanais based in Banjul and succeeds Ms. Feyi Boroffice, who recently completed her term as Resident Representative for The Gambia.

The introduction of joint country representationis an important steptowards building a stronger World Bank Group. The Gambiais one of 21 World Bank Group offices transitioning to a single World Bank Group Country Manager or ResidentRepresentative for the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
