Press Release

IFC’s Vice President for Africa, Sérgio Pimenta, to Visit Kenya

September 27, 2023

Nairobi, Kenya, September 27, 2023 - Sérgio Pimenta, IFC's Vice President for Africa, will visit Nairobi, Kenya from September 27th to 29th to reiterate IFC's commitment to supporting Kenya's green and inclusive development goals.

Accompanied by senior members of IFC's leadership team for Africa, Mr. Pimenta will hold talks with senior government officials and key private sector leaders. Mr. Pimenta will discuss with partners new avenues and opportunities for economic cooperation, trade, and investment to support sustainable economic growth and job creation in Kenya and the broader region by unlocking greater investment from the private sector.

While Kenya, like the rest of the world, is confronting rising inflation, disrupted supply chains, the increased threat of global warming, and heightened food insecurity, the country also has untapped investment opportunities. Kenya is Eastern Africa's regional trade and financial hub and is leading with its approach to green development. Additionally, the country is digitally connected and has a young and entrepreneurial population which provide the private sector with opportunities to drive growth and create more jobs for the country.

As of June 30, 2023, IFC's investment portfolio in Kenya totaled $1.16 billion across manufacturing, agribusiness, financial services, infrastructure, and technology. IFC also has an advisory portfolio of $58 million. The advisory program complements IFC's investments and is growing in key strategic areas such as healthcare, affordable housing, and financial inclusion.
