Praia, Cabo Verde, September 28, 2022 – Sérgio Pimenta, IFC Vice President for Africa, will visit Cabo Verde from September 29-30 to explore ways IFC can deepen its commitment to growth, job creation, and opportunity in the country through private sector-led solutions.
During his first official visit to Cabo Verde as IFC Vice President for Africa, Mr. Pimenta will meet with Cabo Verde's Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, senior government officials, and representatives from the private sector.
Discussions will focus on how IFC can best support Cabo Verde's development agenda, the Cabo Verde Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development (PEDS), notably through increased investments and impact in the tourism, infrastructure and energy sectors. Mr. Pimenta will also explore ways to improve access to finance for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
Increasing IFC's support to strengthen the tourism sector and scaling up access to finance for MSMEs will be at the top of Mr. Pimenta's agenda.
The press is invited to request interviews with Mr. Pimenta and attend the joint press conference with Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva on September 29 at 12:30 pm in the Government Palace's conference room.
Cabo Verde is recovering from the impacts of COVID-19, which dealt a blow to its tourism-dependent economy. A strong private sector will be central to support recovery efforts and help Cabo Verde face new challenges, including from rising global inflation and food prices.
IFC's current support in Cabo Verde is largely focused on increasing access to finance for MSMEs by providing financial institutions with trade finance lines and long-term financing.
