Calling all hydropower stakeholders in Myanmar: Draft Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Guidelines for Hydropower Projects now available for public comment and feedback!
Background
With support from the Australian government, Myanmar's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC), the Ministry of Electricity and Energy (MOEE) and IFC have drafted Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) guidelines for hydropower projects in Myanmar. These guidelines are required to provide clear, consistent and comprehensive guidance on legal requirements; key issues in project design, construction, commissioning, operation and decommissioning; and management plans that will provide guidance on what should be in an ESIA and how to review it.
Submit Your Feedback
The draft ESIA have been reviewed and shared at a series of consultations in Myanmar in 2016 and 2017. The current drafts in English and Myanmar language are now released for review and comment by all interested stakeholders. Please submit your feedback and comments to Mr. Naung Sanlinn by July 27, 2017.
