World Bank Group and Banco Consorcio Mobilize Financing to Expand Access to Housing and Create Jobs

August 24, 2026

  • The two institutions are strengthening their partnership to expand women’s access to mortgage lending, helping reduce Chile’s housing deficit and support the recovery of the construction sector, a key driver of employment and economic growth.

Santiago, Chile, August 24, 2026. To help expand access to housing finance in Chile and enable more women to obtain mortgage loans, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, announced a US$100 million loan to Banco Consorcio.

The financing aims to help reduce Chile’s current housing deficit, estimated at 927,000 homes, equivalent to 14% of households nationwide, at a time when access to mortgage credit has become more challenging due to higher mortgage rates and reduced availability of long-term financing. The operation is also expected to support the recovery of the construction sector, which accounts for approximately 7% of Chile’s GDP and 10% of employment.

"The housing challenge has a direct impact on the country’s economic and social development. This operation seeks to expand opportunities for more people to access mortgage financing while supporting a more inclusive and dynamic housing market," said Jean-Marc Arbogast, World Bank Group Country Manager for Chile.

Gonzalo Ferrer, CEO of Banco Consorcio,  stated: "Mortgage lending is a key business line for Banco Consorcio, and this loan will allow us to strengthen our offering and support more women in purchasing a home, advancing financial inclusion."

This operation reflects the strength of more than a decade of collaboration between the two institutions and IFC’s commitment to supporting financial solutions in Chile that address development challenges, mobilize private investment, create jobs, and promote sustainable growth.
