The investment aims to strengthen the agricultural value chain, making it more productive, resilient, inclusive, and innovative, with a focus on small and medium-sized farmers.
Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, October 6, 2026, — The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, announced financing for Agrofértil S.A., a leading distributor of agricultural inputs and grain trader in Paraguay. The funds will enable Agrofértil to expand access to pre-harvest financing and agricultural inputs for producers throughout the country, contributing to the sustainable development of Paraguay’s agricultural and productive sectors.
Agrofértil operates an integrated “one-stop shop” model that combines the provision of inputs—including crop protection products, fertilizers, seeds, and biological products—with pre-harvest financing and technical assistance through a network of more than 30 regional distribution centers and storage capacity of 811,000 metric tons. IFC’s investment will also support the expansion of digital agriculture solutions that combine climate data and agronomic information to help producers make better decisions, manage climate risks, and strengthen crop productivity. Agrofértil currently reaches producers throughout Paraguay through an extensive distribution and technical assistance network.
“This partnership with IFC is a significant endorsement of our vision to be the Paraguayan farmer’s comprehensive partner. With this financing, we will be able to reach more producers, especially small and medium-sized farmers who are the heart of Paraguay’s countryside, providing them with access to quality inputs, timely financing, and technology to farm more effectively. We are proud to work alongside IFC to build a more productive, sustainable, inclusive, and innovative agricultural sector,” said Adilson Benedito Antonio Junior, CFO of Agrofértil.
The IFC project aims to contribute to grain production equivalent to feeding 5.3 million people by 2031, while strengthening more productive agricultural value chains in a sector that accounts for 18% of national employment in Paraguay. In addition, Agrofértil will continue reinforcing its commitment to equal opportunities for men and women in the workplace, including renewing its EDGE certification, an international recognition of good practices in workplace gender equity. IFC will also support the company in strengthening its environmental and social standards, promoting greater supply-chain traceability and measures to advance sustainability.
“Paraguay has an agricultural sector with enormous potential to generate quality jobs and energize its economy. This investment in Agrofértil reflects IFC’s commitment to strengthening agricultural value chains where small and medium-sized producers can access the resources they need to grow. By supporting Agrofértil, we are investing in the productivity and resilience of Paraguay’s agricultural sector,” said Boris Weber, World Bank Group Representative for Paraguay.
