Washington DC, August 17, 2020 — IFC is mourning the loss of our dear friend and colleague Gabriel Goldschmidt, who at the time of his passing was serving as the IFC Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean. Gabriel had a positive impact on lives of countless IFC staff, clients and partners as he worked to promote development for nearly three decades.
An Argentine national, Gabriel joined IFC in 1993. He had a truly distinguished career marked by a tireless commitment to helping emerging economies overcome development challenges, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), a region he cared about deeply.
Prior to becoming a Regional Director for LAC in 2018, Gabriel led IFC’s efforts to support infrastructure projects that help to improve lives across LAC. Gabriel oversaw several landmark initiatives and pioneered projects in transport, power, as well as water and waste management. His colleagues, clients and friends will remember him for his graceful humor and eloquence, tremendous curiosity, attention to detail, hard work, thoughtful analysis and strategic vision. Gabriel was respected for his leadership and kindness and commanded deep admiration from all those who knew him.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Miriam, and their daughter, Ella.
