The Mobilization of Private Finance by Multilateral Development Banks and Development Finance Institutions Report for 2020 and 2021 reports on mobilization from 27 Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs). Contributing institutions follow a common methodology that was agreed in 2016. This is the fifth edition of this report.
The report measures private investment in development projects in which MDBs and DFIs also make investments or have otherwise structured and supported the project. These investments advance global sustainable development goals by promoting inclusive and sustainable growth, fighting poverty and inequality, mitigating the effects of climate change, or achieving other development impacts.
This report covers the two years of MDB reporting during the global coronavirus pandemic, which severely impacted mobilization results for many MDBs and DFIs.
Together, MDBs and DFIs mobilized $64.1 billion in low- and middle-income countries in 2020 and $63.3 billion in 2021, in line with $63.6 billion mobilized in 2019.
