Wiebke Schloemer

Division Director, Western Balkans and South Caucasus

Wiebke Schloemer is IFC’s Division Director for the Western Balkans and South Caucasus, a role she assumed in October 2025. Based in Vienna, she also serves as Head of Office for IFC Austria. In this position, she leads IFC’s operations in the region, promoting private sector investment and job creation.

A German national, Ms. Schloemer brings more than 25 years of experience in finance and investing in emerging markets, with a focus on infrastructure, power, telecoms, and industrial sectors. She has held several leadership positions at IFC, supporting innovative, growth-oriented companies and advising governments on sustainable private sector development.

Before taking up her current role, Ms. Schloemer led IFC’s operations in Türkiye and Central Asia, based in Istanbul. She previously managed IFC’s infrastructure and power business across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and East Asia, while based in Hong Kong. Earlier in her career, from Washington, DC, she led IFC’s telecoms and technology investment activities in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Prior to joining IFC, Ms. Schloemer worked with the European Investment Bank and DEG, a subsidiary of the KfW Group, in Germany. She holds a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Göttingen and a postgraduate degree in Development Policy from the German Development Institute.
