Rainforest Alliance's Community-Based Mapping and Species Assessments Report
In March 2013, over 90 forest rangers, farmers, students, village representatives, and other stakeholders gathered for mapping and species assessments in Gantarangkeke and Tompobulu subdistricts in South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. Through community-based biodiversity mapping, the community was able to document local knowledge and information regarding natural habitats and species on a map accessible to the next generation. This report discusses methods and tools used in the training administered, as well as topics discussed, questions raised by participants, and lessons learned.
