Overview

Health and education are the foundation for human development. It is difficult to hold job or care for a family if one is sick, or doesn’t have relevant skills and knowledge. Expanding access to health and education services is a central element for any strategy to eliminate poverty and reduce inequality.  In developing countries, the poor often turn to private sector health and education providers for access to services.

IFC is the world’s largest multi-lateral investor in private health and education services. Our goal is to improve standards of quality and efficiency, and create jobs for skilled professionals, thereby encouraging them to practice in their countries. To ease the burden on public health and education systems, IFC also works closely with the World Bank and developing country governments to design and tailor strategies that fit the needs of countries that do not have the resources to provide high-quality health care or education services for all their people.
