13th Annual DFI Corporate Governance Conference in Washington DC

More than 90 participants and over 60 representatives of development finance institutions gathered at IFC headquarters for their thirteenth conference on corporate governance. The annual event has become an important learning and networking opportunity for the signatories of the Corporate Governance Development Framework. Some sessions were open to representatives of other institutions and the broader corporate governance community, drawing a number of interested parties. These programs addressed a range of topical issues, including the challenges of promoting and financing businesses in fragile and conflict-affected states, corporate governance in early stage innovation companies, and private equity funds and their corporate governance priorities. Participants also heard a presentation on the updated IFC Corporate Governance Methodology, which integrates environmental and social considerations into the approach.

Other sessions were designed specifically for the signatories of the framework. During one session, signatories shared their corporate governance action plans for the coming year, as well as the implementation challenges they anticipated. In addition, the group participated in highly interactive sessions, discussing a range of topics, including sustainability rating tools, transparency and disclosure, and gender diversity on boards and in senior management.
