Fragile and Conflict-Affected Situations

IFC supports development in the region's most-fragile economies.

This region is home to several economies where years of conflict and fragility have entrenched poverty and inequality. In those places, IFC helps to kickstart economic growth and promote shared prosperity. 

Key Projects:

• In Yemen, we partnered with Hayel Saeed Anam Group, helping it ramp up the production of dairy products in the face of a food shortage.
• We launched a blended finance investment facility to support high-impact projects benefitting forcibly displaced persons and their host communities in eight countries, including Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq.
• In Iraq, we invested in Basrah Gas Company to support one of the largest gas flaring reduction projects in the world.helping to improve energy access and support a more resilient energy sector in Iraq, key in a country where decades of conflict have damaged critical power infrastructure.
• In Yemen, we helped Al Kuraimi Islamic Bank expand its trade financing program, making it easier to import critical goods into the country.
