IFC is working to develop solutions to close the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) financing gap, collaborating with 88 financial institutions across 24 countries in Europe and Central Asia. As of June 2010, IFC committed a total of $2.8 billion to MSME finance in Europe and Central Asia, with $918.7 million in fiscal year 2010. In addition, IFC’s microfinance institution (MFI) clients had 209 thousand loans outstanding to micro-enterprises in Europe and Central Asia by end of 2009, totaling $411.3 million. Similarly, IFC’s SME financial institution (SME FI) clients had 386 thousand loans outstanding to SMEs by end of 2009, totaling $29.9 billion in this region. This report summarizes and analyzes the results of energy effi ciency surveys undertaken by IFC in the industrial sectors of six countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Russia, and Ukraine (the “survey countries”). The survey assessed how industrial enterprises in each of the survey countries prioritize, understand, plan, fi nance, and implement energy effi ciency investments.
