Keeping Food Safe and Nutritious, Preventing Losses

For over a decade, IFC has helped food companies in emerging and developing markets to integrate into modern food value chains and strengthen government capabilities to fortify their food safety control systems.

On June 11, 2023, IFC proudly hosted the 10th International Food Safety Forum in Dhaka, Bangladesh, centered around the theme of Keeping Food Safe and Nutritious, Preventing Losses.

Key stakeholders from both the private and public sectors in agribusiness attended the forum to discuss and identify methods to support the Government of Bangladesh in providing safer and more nutritious food, while preventing food loss in the country’s food sector and beyond.

The event offered crucial insights about good practices in food safety, nutrition, and food waste on climate and inequity. Furthermore, it sought to explore the role of the private sector in addressing these challenges and capitalizing on its opportunities.

The forum, featuring the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority as a co-partner, provided a unique platform for the exchange of best practices and innovative solutions. It served as a great opportunity to forge new relationships and explore potential business partnerships. As a result, the event led to the signing of the first Cooperation Agreement in food safety between IFC and WHO, providing the country with the knowledge and tools needed to enhance its food system.
