Impact of IFC’s FI Clients

In 2011, our FI clients provided approximately 20 million microloans, worth about $20 billion.


In 2011, our FI clients provided 3.3 million SME loans, worth around $181 billion.


IFC reached 23 million MSMEs through its investments in financial institutions in the end of 2011.


These MSMEs provided an estimated 106 million jobs in developing countries.



IFC has a private equity portfolio of over $3 billion invested in about 180 funds around the world. It is estimated that these investments have created about 300,000 new jobs over the last ten years.


Since 2007, over half the funds supported by IFC have invested in IDA countries, and 65 percent of the companies supported have been SMEs.
