Date: February 25, 2016
Venue: Vientiane, Lao PDR
The HDWG will meet for its 8th business meeting in Vientiane to strategize on key areas of work to pursue in 2016.
Members will also receive updates on pending issues including mainstreaming of environmental and social language in concession agreements and the re-drafting of Lao PDR’s Small Hydropower Decree. The group will receive a presentation by an international lawyer working on the decree.
This meeting’s lunch seminar will focus on alternatives to hydropower development in Cambodia and Lao PDR with the Natural Heritage Institute, a non-profit, public interest law firm and conservation advocacy organization founded in 1989.
Established by IFC and the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Hydropower Developers’ Working Group is a platform to help companies channel their concerns to the government, tackle business challenges, and develop hydropower that meets environmental and social best practices. The working group is the first of its kind in the Mekong region.
