Environmental Flows (E-Flows) (ADVANCING SUSTAINABLE HYDROPOWER - Virtual Webinar Series)

Date : 17-Mar-2021

Venue: Virtual

Environmental Flows (EFlows) are the central components of a functioning watershed. EFlows encompass the quantity, frequency, timing, quality of water, sediment flows necessary to sustain freshwater ecosystems and the human livelihoods and wellbeing that depends on these ecosystems. Development of Hydropower projects, irrigation projects, sand/gravel mining, etc., trigger inevitable impacts on biodiversity and ecological processes within the river system. This webinar will present an overview of EFlows and guide participants through the types of EFlows models appropriate for all scales of development projects, from low impact to high impact. The webinar will also present examples of how EFlows models are used to develop mitigation actions and to monitor project impacts over time. Following a presentation by an international EFlows expert, there will be time for questions and discussion.
