Africa Bond Markets Conference

Date: November 7-8, 2011
Location: Intercontinental Hotel, Nairobi - Kenya

The Africa Bond Markets Conference was sponsored by the Efficient Securities Markets Institutional Development (ESMID) Initiative, which is a joint initiative of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the World Bank, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

The goal of this conference was to share ideas on how to strengthen Africa’s bond markets in order to increase the availability of long-term funding for economic development. Developing efficient bond markets is an important priority that will make it much easier for businesses to operate and attract more private investment to Africa. Domestic capital will also be mobilized for financing key development areas, provide investment vehicles for social safety-net investors, and diversify and deepen financial systems to improve their resilience against crises.

The conference shared international experiences on development of bond markets; emerging issues relevant to bond market development; and lessons from ESMID's work in Africa.
