G20 Inclusive Business Framework and Leaders’ Call to Action

Leaders at the G20 Leaders Summit in Turkey issued a call to action to public and private sector representatives, international organizations and civil society to advance the ability of businesses around the world to integrate low-income people into their value chains. The call highlights inclusive business’ important role in the implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals aimed at ending poverty by 2030. As part of the Call to action, the G20 endorsed the G20 Inclusive Business Framework, which presents policy options for G20 and non-G20 governments, companies, and international financial institutions to promote and support inclusive business.

The Role of the Private Sector in Expanding Health Access to the Base of the Pyramid

IFC’s purpose is to create opportunities for people to escape poverty and improve their lives by developing more outlets for inclusive and sustainable growth. To ensure equitable access to healthcare, we are committed to supporting companies that are providing health services to the poor in commercially viable ways. To this end, IFC conducted a study on how to help the private sector expand access to health services to the base of the pyramid. The study examined Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria and Turkey—countries with significant health markets yet large underserved populations. Three health segments were analyzed: healthcare service provision, distribution of drugs and medical equipment, and medical technology.

G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance (Vietnamese and English)

The 2015 G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance is a publication of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), help policy makers evaluate and improve the legal, regulatory, and institutional framework for corporate governance, with a view to supporting economic efficiency, sustainable growth and financial stability. First published in 1999, the Principles have since become an international benchmark for policy makers, investors, corporations and other stakeholders worldwide. This edition contains the results of the second review of the Principles, which has been strengthened to reflect experiences since 2004 and ensure the continuing high quality, relevance and usefulness of the Principles. With permission from the OECD, the IFC's Vietnam Corporate Governance Project has translated them into Vietnamese with an aim to provide the latest international benchmarks in Vietnamese language for various interested stakeholders in Vietnam to raise awareness, adopt and improve current corporate governance practices in the Vietnamese emerging corporate sector.

Case Study Ascendis Health: Bringing High-Quality Generic Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices to over 100 Countries

Ascendis Health is a South African company producing a range of health care products aimed at enabling a holistic approach to health, combining prevention and treatment. Its medical device division imports medical equipment and offers maintenance services in developing countries. Its pharmaceutical division distributes over 850 generic medications in emerging markets. In 2016, IFC made a $30 million investment in Ascendis to support its acquisition of a European generic pharmaceutical maker, with the goal of expanding access to affordable medications in developing countries.
