IFC Promotes Infrastructure Development

In order to meet sustained air traffic growth, the government of Jordan sought to invite private sector participation in the expansion and rehabilitation of Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport. IFC advised Jordan’s government how to hold a fair and transparent bidding process, which ultimately attracted five industry leaders. IFC combined advisory services with investment to facilitate the $700 million project’s success by building on IFC’s experience with airport public-private partnerships in Saudi Arabia and Tunisia. When complete, the project will:

    • Earn an expected $3.7 billion for Jordan over the life of the concession
    • Create an estimated 23,000 jobs over the life of the project
    • Support the tourism sector, which makes up about 10 percent of Jordan’s GDP
