Good policies and regulations are a critical foundation to ensure the hydropower sector is developed sustainably and good international industry practices are in place.
We’re investing in strengthening legislation including water laws, small hydro regulations, policies on sustainable hydropower development and feasibility study guidelines for governments to ensure that the tools are available and guidance is provided to identify, mitigate and manage environmental and social risks.

POLICIES ON SUSTAINABLE HYDROPOWER DEVELOPMENT
We help ministries develop policy on sustainable hydropower development, strengthening the sector and encouraging leadership government.
In Lao PDR we have developed the Policy on Sustainable Hydropower Development together with the Lao government and the World Bank.

REVISION OF LAWS AND REGULATIONS
We advise government agencies on water resources management laws and drafting hydropower regulations.
In Myanmar we are developing guidelines for environmental and social impact assessments with the government. In Lao PDR we are working together with the government, World Bank and other partner organizations on the drafting of the Water Resources Law and guidelines on Cumulative Impact Assessments.
