Latin America & the Caribbean
Income inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean is high despite a significant in reduction in poverty in recent years. IFC’s work in the region includes supporting the foundation for inclusive recovery, investing in human capital and protecting the poor, and building economic resilience.
In FY19, our long-term investments in the region totaled about $6.2 billion, including $3.7 billion mobilized from other investors. Our clients provided 14 million loans to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, totaling about $99billion. We provided $179 million in new financing for firms with improved corporate governance practices.
