Monish Mahurkar is IFC’s Vice President for Corporate Strategy and Resources. In this role, he leads IFC’s key corporate functions including Corporate Strategy, Internal Policies and Processes, Human Resources, Technology, Budget, and Facilities and Administration.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Mahurkar was IFC’s Director of Treasury Market Operations since 2014, overseeing IFC’s global debt capital markets and fixed-income activities. He led the execution of IFC’s funding strategy and management of its cash and liquid asset portfolios—contributing to substantial revenue generation and strengthening IFC’s triple-A balance sheet through a diversified funding program.
Since 2015, Mr. Mahurkar has been closely involved in a series of strategic World Bank Group initiatives including Financing for Development, IDA18 Private Sector Window, Voice Reform, and Forward Look. He has also represented IFC’s management on various working groups as well as on several Board briefings, seminars, and bilateral engagements.
Previously, as IFC’s Director of Treasury Client Solutions from 2012 through 2014, Mr. Mahurkar led a team focused on local-currency financing and capital markets development through innovative transactions in countries such as China, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Dominican Republic. India’s Masala Bond Rupee financing program was established while he was leading this group.
Before joining in 2012, Mr. Mahurkar had accumulated more than 25 years of international experience at Citibank and Merrill Lynch across emerging and developed markets, leading banking and capital markets businesses in Mumbai, London, Tokyo, and New York followed by a stint with the Asian Development Bank in Manila. His assignments over this period included Managing Director and Treasurer of Citibank Japan (1999-2003,) Managing Director & Head of Risk Treasury at Citibank New York (2003- 2007,) Managing Director & Head of Fixed Income for Merrill Lynch India (2007-2008,) and Head of Local Currency Capital Markets at the Asian Development Bank (1999-2012.)
Mr. Mahurkar holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, and an undergraduate degree in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi.
