IFC creates its Corporate Finance Services group, providing financial and privatization advice to emerging market companies and governments.

Amid the Latin American debt crisis, IFC helps several Mexican conglomerates reduce their corporate debt.

IFC receives its first triple-A credit rating—key to a major multicurrency borrowing program that by 2016 tops $17 billion a year.
