Strategic Negotiation Training for Lao Government Officials
Date: March 24-28, 2014
Venue: Luang Prabang, Lao PDR
Negotiations that take place during the concession agreement phase of hydropower project development are key for achieving improved project outcomes and good environmental and social standards. As these negotiations are complex and often multi-issued, negotiators need to be prepared and understand the process. IFC, in collaboration with Lao PDR’s Department of Environmental and Social Impact Assessment under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is offering this initial training to improve government officials’ negotiation skills.
The five-day interactive training provides an overview of negotiation challenges and styles, and exercises to build confidence and improve negotiations. Participants including officials from Ministry of Energy and Mines and Ministry of Finance, will learn what makes a negotiation successful, how to deal with challenging behaviors and how to manage multi-issue, multi-party negotiations.
