Cruise tourism injected $34 million Australian dollars into the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu and brought an estimated further $18 million dollars in indirect economic benefits last year, according to a new IFC study.
In an op-ed in Solomon Star News, Gavin Murray and Franz Drees-Gross write that "TODAY is International Women’s Day, and a perfect time to reflect on why it is so important to promote gender equality in the Pacific."

IFC in Samoa

Through a combination of investments and advice, IFC seeks to partner with private sector companies in sectors crucial to Samoa’s long-term sustainable development:

  • Expanding banking services to help small and medium entrepreneurs find capital to start and run their businesses and create jobs.
  • Increasing access to alternative dispute-resolution services to enable companies to settle legal cases without going to trial, hence saving time and money.
  • Growing the tourism sector to catalyze wider economic development for the island.
