In Green Buildings, IFC works in the advisory capacity on several fronts:
The EDGE Green Building Certification System enables building owners and property developers to discover the best technical solutions for their environmentally friendly buildings without the need for expensive building specialists.
IFC partners with energy service companies (ESCOs) as a platform to deliver energy efficiency solutions for environmentally-friendly buildings. IFC helps to eliminate such obstacles as uncertainty over technology, access to finance, perceived risk, time constraints, and a lack of awareness of the business case.
Through its Sustainable Energy Finance program, IFC works with partner financial institutions to issue guarantees in commercial loans for energy efficiency transactions.
IFC’s Advisory Services works with governments and regulators on the national and municipal levels to build capacity for green buildings through policy and regulatory support. Our technical assistance includes sector studies, design guidance, and benchmarking. Through public-private partnerships, IFC works with governments to mobilize private capital and harness the expertise of the private sector in the construction of green buildings, whether airports, schools, or healthcare facilities.
