IFC maintains an ongoing strategic dialogue with the European Commission (EC), which is also one of IFC's largest donors. EU Member States hold almost a third of IFC’s shares.
IFC has been granted observer status in several of the EU’s blending platforms, and has successfully completed a renegotiation of its Framework Agreement with the EC. The corporation is currently undergoing an EU Pillar Assessment for Pilar 6: Financial Instruments, which will eventually allow IFC to receive EU blended funds.
IFC’s partnership with the EC extends beyond mobilization and fundraising, and encompasses joint programs such as the GIIF program, knowledge sharing on areas such as fragile and conflict states, IFC’s participation in the EC’s European Development Days, and staff exchanges.
