IFC's Working Capital Systemic Solutions provide short-term liquidity facilities to leading SME (small and medium enterprise) banks in markets where macroeconomic factors, such as monetary policy or structural imbalances in a country's balance of payments, have caused a reduction in the availability of U.S. dollars.
Under this initiative, IFC provides standard "A" loans with a tenor of one year to fill the void left by international commercial banks in the foreign exchange market. These loans can be renewed twice for a maximum tenor of up to three years.
By providing dollar liquidity, these working capital facilities enable local banks to meet their clients' immediate trade finance and working capital requirements. These facilities increase the number and value of short-term transactions to finance the working capital needs of small entrepreneurs and exporters.
