Nongovernmental Organizations and Civil Society

Welcome to the NGO/Civil Society webpage!  The purpose of this website is to keep NGOs and civil society groups informed about increasing opportunities for interaction with the International Finance Corporation (IFC).  As the largest multilateral source of loan and equity financing for private sector projects in the developing world, IFC welcomes NGO interest on a variety of matters ranging from policy development to project-specific input.

As part of its mission to reduce poverty and improve people's lives, IFC recognizes that nongovernmental organizations and civil society are important actors in the development process by:

  • promoting community consultation, participation and environmental protection
  • extending project reach and benefits to the poorest and most vulnerable, and
  • introducing flexible and innovative approaches to difficult environmental and social concerns.
