Technical Partners

IFC is working with the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management to support the activities of the IFC Uganda Primary Mortgage Market Initiative. The school is a strong technical partner with a strong international and local team that will provide onsite and punctual expertise over the 30-month duration of the project.

The Frankfurt School of Finance and Management is one of the leading bank training and consultancy institutes in Germany with a track record of 50 years experience in all areas of banking and finance. It is owned and supervised by leading commercial banks (such as Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, Unicredito, etc.). It draws on the talent of senior executives and expert practitioners and combines their experience with innovative academic research and training at its business school. The Frankfurt School of Finance and Management’s International Advisory Services has provided technical assistance and training to banks and microfinance institutions worldwide for more than 15 years. In an attempt to jumpstart the mortgage finance market in Uganda, the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management is implementing a technical assistance program on behalf of IFC. The program is designed to combine work on capacity building among the participating financial institutions, with regulatory reforms and improvements for housing finance.

The overall objective of the project is to develop an efficient, private sector-driven primary mortgage market in Uganda. The following will be the long-term benefits of the program:

  • Creation of long-term high-quality mortgage lending operations that adhere to IFC's Mortgage Toolkit
  • Availability of long-term local currency funding
  • Increasing provision of bankable and affordable housing
  • Expansion of mortgage lending and construction finance
