The Ukraine Banking Corporate Governance Project (UBCGP) is being implemented by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and is funded with the support of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland (seco).
The Project is scheduled to run for two years (January 2005 - September 2007).

The Project is founded on the findings of the Ukraine Banking Sector Corporate Governance Study conducted by IFC in April 2004.

Project Mission

The mission of the Project is to improve the corporate governance practices of Ukrainian banks, to increase their attractiveness for investment, thereby assisting them to gain easier access to capital and thus helping to stimulate business lending to small and medium sized enterprises.

This will be accomplished through fulfilling the following objectives:
  • To improve the current state of internal governance in Ukrainian banks;
  • To promote the use of corporate governance in the credit assessment of corporate clients by banks;
  • To strengthen non-governmental organizations active in the banking sector;
  • To facilitate and improve the public-private dialogue on banking reforms.

The Project will leverage IFC's ongoing corporate governance work in the non-financial sector in Ukraine and other countries in the region.
