PolishRe gathers Ukrainian insurers to propose collaboration for agri-insurance in Ukraine
On October 11 IFC Ukraine Agri-Insurance Project participated in the seminar "Current Situation and Development Trends of Crop and Livestock Insurance in Ukraine" organized by one of the biggest providers of financial services in Poland-- Polish Reinsurance Company. PolishRe specializes in the reinsurance business. The seminar hosted underwriters and product development experts from the leading insurance companies in Ukraine like Providna, Brokbusiness, UNIQA, ASKA, Oranta, Ukrainian Agricultural Insurance Company, and AgroRisk.

The Project organizes practical training in loss adjustment
On September 27 – 29 IFC Ukraine Agri-Insurance Project organized a three-days field training “Loss Adjustment Procedures for Corn, Sugar Beets and Sunflower”. The training was delivered by IIARM Watts and Associates experts Myles Watts and Ryan Jones. Loss Adjustors and surveyors from 10 insurance companies, IngoUkraina, Providna, Ukrainian Agrarian Insurance Company, TAS, insurance broker, “Dedal” and AgroRisk, totally 24 participants attended the training.

On September 9, 2011, the IFC Agri-Insurance Development Project (World Bank Group) hosted a meeting of the Project experts and partner insurance companies. The Project experts delivered a full package of materials on the newly developed product insuring winter grain crops (wheat, barley, rye, and triticale) for winter period against total loss. The participants received detailed information on the newly developed insurance product, their advantages, and insurance terms and conditions, rates, and underwriting and adjustment procedures under this new product.

IFC Ukraine Agri-Insurance Project Gathers Agroholdings
On Spetember 6 the International Finance Corporation hosted a round table “IFC Supports Private Insurance Companies to Implement International Standards in Ukrainian Agri-Insurance”. The following agroholdings and one input supplier participated: Agrofuel Ukraine, Landcom Assets Management, Astarta-Kyiv, Nibulon and Syngenta. The discussion centered on the reliability of new standard insurance products, the current situation in the Ukrainian market, limitations hindering its further development, and the possibilities for improvement. The specific needs of the agroholdings were addressed.

Access to Finance Global - ECA Agrifinance Workshop
The IFC Ukraine Agri-Financial Services Program host a Global/Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Agrifinance Workshop of the A2F Global Agrifinance Advisory team in IFC Kyiv office, on May 25-26, 2011. The session will be a working meeting in which key members of the Global and ECA agri-finance teams will discuss the Access to Agri-Finance Tools currently under development, coordinate regional and global efforts, and leverage recent experience for other regional projects in the team’s growing pipeline.
The Ukraine Agri-Insurance Project will present an Agri-Insurance Toolkit and standard insurance products developed by the Project team to ensure quality insurance services to Ukrainian farmers and facilitate access to finance.The Ukraine Agri-Finance Project will participate in the workshop and is going to present on the Agri-Risk Assessment Model it develops. The Model will help financial institutions to improve their agri-finance capabilities by assessing creditworthiness of agricultural enterprises applying for a loan.

IFC helps input suppliers and banks reduce credit risk through crop yield insurance
The IFC Ukraine Agri-Insurance Development Project holds two workshops for leading input suppliers and banks on Insurance Co-Pay Schemes to Reduce Credit Risk for Loans to Producers. The workshops will look into various designs for insurance products aligned with the lending programs of input suppliers and banks. The overall goal is to improve lending conditions for agricultural producers. The workshops are conducted by a leading international expert in insurance product design, professor Myles Watts of International Institute for Agricultural Risk Management.

Members of the Ukraine Agri-Insurance Bureau discuss re-insurance options with the help of IFC
The Ukraine Agri-Insurance Bureau - a pool of leading agricultural insurers established with the help of the IFC Ukraine Agri-Insurance Development Project, sees re-insurance as an essential mechanism to provide quality insurance to Ukrainian farmers. The Project invited a leading international expert, professor Myles Watts of International Institute for Agricultural Risk Management, to help the Bureau members discuss different options for reinsurance that can be implemented by the Bureau. During a whole-day discussion, the participants will consider the proportional and layered reinsurance and make necessary calculations to find the best decision for transfer of liability.

IFC conducts a training campaign for lending and insurance specialists in partnership with Raiffeisen Bank Aval
The IFC Ukraine Agri-Insurance Development Project partners with Raiffeisen Bank Aval to improve access to finance for Ukrainian farmers through use of insurance as a risk management tool. In April-May 2011, the Project conducts a training campaign for specialists of the Bank and its partner insurance companies, Uniqa, Universalna, and UPSK, to help them better understand their agri-business clients and offer quality insurance. The training campaign started in late April with a seminar in Mykolaiv on April 27 and another seminar in Kiyv on April 29 and will continue in May in Kharkov (May 12) and Lviv (May 24). The seminars focus on a set of nine standard insurance products developed by the Project in 2009-2011.

Public awareness campaign "Standard Insurance Product as a Key to Quality Agri-Insurance"
The public awareness campaign of the IFC Ukraine Agri-Insurance Developed Project reached completion. The campaign has been conducted jointly with the Raiffeisen Bank Aval and the Extension Services in the oblasts of Ternopil, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr, Odesa, Poltava and Kirovograd, and received support from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
