Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Strategies and Sustainability Reporting

CSR Strategies is a new advisory product to help companies become more strategic about their corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities and improve their business performance through effective communication and public reporting. It also helps companies build capacity and change behavior internally.

The program builds on lessons from advisory work done with IFC clients in the Philippines, India, Colombia, and Brazil, and has been developed with The Global Reporting Initiative and AccountAbility. It offers a package of tools that links proven components of successful approaches to CSR:
  • a strategic planning exercise related to business strategy
  • a CSR management framework
  • effective communication tools such as sustainability reporting
The strategic planning component builds on a self assessment tool for emerging market companies – GLN Open Access – developed between IFC, UN Global Compact, AccountAbility, and Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship.

An example of Social Responsibility's work is the assistance to Manila Water Company in the Philippines. The project put in place a management framework and performance indicators for CSR and assisted the company in publishing its first Sustainability Report.
