Cibele de Macedo Salviatto (Atitude, Brazil) suggests that the sustainability concept can benefit from a gender dimension.

My name is Cibele de Macedo Salviatto. I run a consultancy company called Atitude here in Brazil which I founded 8 years ago. Atitude's main role is to help executives put in practice management processes that are more sustainable. We are also focused on "engagement", so we help companies dialogue with communities internally and externally.

Why gender is important? I have been working with this sustainability issue for 8 years. Most of my clients are men. They are leaders in their companies. But I have never had the opportunity to work with women leaders. Sustainability is generally a feminine thing. It is a paradigm break in terms of management, and because it is fundamentally a feminine way to look at the world. How can something that — in my point of view — is fundamentally feminine be managed only by men? This is why the gender discussion is very important to me.

I expect GRI and IFC to insert the gender dimension in management tools. When you bring indicators to the table, you can have access to the discussion at least.
