Gender reporting multi-stakeholder workshops: London, England
December 1 and 2, 2008

Visit the GRI website for the full article describing this workshop.

The London workshops, held December 1 and 2 2008, included 16 participants from business, civil society, academic institutions, public agencies and associations. Objectives of the sessions were to:

  • gather views of the participants on what gender issues that should be addressed and why
  • gain insight from participants on how to report on the issues identified

Ideas from the sessions are to be incorporated in a Gender and Reporting Resource Document, which will help guide organizations with gender and sustainability reporting.

In addition to presentations by the GRI and IFC facilitators, Standard Chartered and Oxfam presented their gender-focused policies and work.

To kick off the discussion, participants were presented with a variety of terms by which to categorize gender issues:

(Wo)men in the Workplace

(Wo)men in the Community

(Wo)men as Suppliers

(Wo)men as Investors

(Wo)men as Consumers/Clients

Other

After a lively debate, participants—among others—agreed on the following:

  • (Wo)men in the workplace is the priority category
  • an additional category should be created to allow for reporting on how an organization as a whole is doing with regard to gender reporting
