Description of company and purpose of project
The Russkiy Mir Group (the Group or the company) is the largest private owner of railroad tank cars (RTC) in Russia. The project involves an IFC loan of up to $60.0 million to the Group to help finance the purchase of RTCs and associated infrastructure.

Project sponsor and major shareholders of project company
The project sponsor, the Russkiy Mir Group, has been involved in Russia’s oil transportation sector since 1993. Russkiy Mir leases RTCs to Russia’s oil companies. The Group is 100% owned by Malmros Continental Property Company B.V., and Railvat B.V., both incorporated in the Netherlands.

Total project cost and proposed IFC investment
The total project cost is estimated to be $125 million. The proposed $60.0 million IFC investment consists of an A Loan, for IFC’s own account.

Location of project and description of site
The Russkiy Mir Group is based in Moscow and provides RTCs to oil companies. The RTCs are used throughout Russia and CIS States.

Project Development Impact and IFC's Role
The project is expected to contribute to the development of additional rail freight capacity in Russia. With the increase in oil production in Russia, the demand for RTCs has grown rapidly.

IFC’s investment will assist in alleviating Russia’s RTC shortage and help provide additional oil transportation capacity.

Environmental and social issues - Category B
This is a Category B project according to IFC’s environmental and social review procedure. Environmental, health and safety issues associated with the project focus on the effectiveness of the Company’s hazardous materials management program, and include: procedures and equipment to prevent accidents; emergency preparedness and response; management and disposal of wastes (wastewaters, spent oils and solvents, paint sludge, etc.) generated by railcar maintenance and cleaning, and employee health and safety programs and practices. IFC will analyze the extent of any liabilities associated with pre-existing environmental contamination of properties owned by Russkiy Mir.
