Project sponsor and major shareholders of project company
Giavoni (the company) is 56% owned by Carrera USA Inc., which is the holding company of Carrera Group; 32% by Abreshim S.A., which is the largest textile company in Tajikistan; and 12% by Sano S.A. – an investment vehicle. Both Abreshim and Sano are fully state-owned, Tajik companies.

Total project cost and proposed IFC investment
Total project cost is estimated at US$4.0 million with the proposed IFC equity investment in the same amount.

Location of project and description of site
The project is located in Giavoni’s existing textiles factory located in the outskirts of Khojand, northern Tajikistan.

Description of company and purpose of project
The project will upgrade Giavoni’s plant and will expand its vertically integrated operations through the construction of a jean manufacturing facility with capacity to produce about 1.3 million pieces per year.

IFC's role in the project is to facilitate foreign strategic investment in Tajikistan. The project is expected to have the following key development impacts: (i) stimulate the growth of the local economy by providing additional private sector jobs; and (ii) demonstration of best operational practices.

Environmental and social issues - Category B
This is a Category B project according to IFC’s Procedure for Environmental and Social Review of Projects, because a limited number of specific environmental and/or social impacts may result which, can be avoided or mitigated by adhering to generally recognized performance standards, guidelines or design criteria.
