Technical Partner and/or Major Shareholders
Alautransgas is fully controlled and 73% owned by shareholders of Kazkommertsbank, an existing IFC client. With equity of US$110 million and assets of US$450 million, Kazkommertsbank has emerged as the largest private Kazakh bank. Currently, negotiations are underway with Primagaz, Europe's leading LPG distributor, concerning the acquisition of a major stake in Alautransgas.

Total investment programme of US$50 million, of which IFC will finance US$20 million.
Location of project and Description of site
The Project is expected to involve investments at the Company’s head office in Almaty and at the Company’s regional liquid petroleum gas (LPG) distribution centres throughout Kazakhstan. These centres store LPG prior to distributing in cylinders or in bulk form to retail customers. Investments will also be made to upgrade the Company’s facilities at the five Kazakh refineries, the premises of cylinder dealers and the underground bulk tanks which feed appartment blocks.
Description of Company and Purpose of Project
The Company supplies LPG to domestic households, where it is primarily used for cooking. The Company's coverage area reaches approximately seven milion people, representing cose to half the Kazakh population. The project consists of the renovation and modernisation of the Company’s existing LPG distribution operations. The Project is expected to involve an increase of more than 100% in LPG delivery capacity.
Environmental Category and Issues
This is an environmental review category B project. Environmental, social, occupational health and safety issues include: safety of storage, filling stations, and distribution systems for apartment buildings. Only positive environmental impacts are foreseen by substituting other fuels with LPG.
