Doing Business Reform- Mumbai & All States: In response to request from GOI (DEA), IFC along with the World Bank is developing a program to provide technical support to GoI for improving the Doing Business ranking of India, through identification and replication of best practices of different states coupled with international advice.
Corporate Governance project with SEBI - Mumbai: In response to request from SEBI, IFC has committed to assist in the development of the new SEBI promoted Corporate Governance institute. The project has been designed and is to be commenced December 2007. It would improve the performance of India’s corporate boards by building the capacity of directors to serve on boards, clarifying the responsibilities of boards and bringing the quality of directors’ practices closer to international norms. This project will also enhance the Indian public’s knowledge of corporate governance matters by building the capacity of journalists in the print and other media to effectively investigate and report on corporate governance issues. It will also promote a dialogue between investors and policymakers, providing practical input to policy formulation for the benefit of India’s enterprise sector.
Competition Policy Advocacy – New Delhi: IFC has been providing advice and capacity building to the newly formed Competition Commission of India in conducting competition and regulatory impact assessments of selected key sectors of the Indian economy, so as to foster investment, productivity, growth and consumer welfare.
