Capacity Building Facility Application Process

If your project idea meets our selection criteria, please follow these steps to apply for funding:

  1. Discuss new project ideas or proposals directly with the CBF team by calling (202) 458-7562 or sending an e-mail to infosme@ifc.org for more information. The Capacity Building Facility will refer external applicants to the appropriate World Bank Group unit which will work with them and submit the required documentation.
  2. Work with the World Bank Group liaison to prepare a two-page concept note, which includes the project description, objectives, context, potential development impact, background of implementing partner, and an indication of costs and other sources of funding. The World Bank Group liaison then submits the concept note to the Capacity Building Facility for consideration.

The Capacity Building Facility may accept or reject the concept note, or request further information. Once the concept note is accepted, the WBG liaison develops and submits a more detailed application. The Capacity Building Facility may refer applicants to the in-house SME experts to help ensure that project design is geared for a high level of impact, and contain clear outputs and performance indicators.
  3. Once approved, a Grant Agreement is signed by the Capacity Building Facility and the implementing partner, agreeing on specific terms and conditions for disbursements and reporting.
